Sathuragiri Hills is situated 10 km from Watrap (Vathirairuppu) near Srivilliputhur. The name Sathuragiri came from Chathur Veda (Vedas) Giri (Hill), where all the four Vedas met and formed the hill. Another meaning is that the whole mountain is in square (Chathuram) in shape so the name Chathuragiri. Sathuragiri is the Abode of God. It is otherwise also called as Mahalingam Hill.
This is a mysterious hill where it is believed that siddhars still live and worship lord Shiva. The main temples in this hills include

How to Reach here:
Pilgrims can reach sathuragiri hills through the best trek route from Thaniparai (~7.5Kms). There are other dense reserve forest trek routes from Kambam (~11 kms ) and saptur(~6.5 kms) . Most of the pilgrims use the thaniparai route only as the other two routes were full of wild animals like elephants.
Pilgrims coming from Chennai direction have to pass through =>
Chennai – Madurai – Krishnan Koil (on the way to Srivilliputhur) – Watrap – Thaniparai (base of the Saturagiri Hill).
Pilgrims travelling from South have to pass through =>
Nagercoil – Tirunelveli – Rajapalayam – Srivilliputhur – Watrap -Thaniparai.
One has to take Shenkottai Express from Chennai and get down at Srivilliputhur. Then from there they can take a bus to Thaniparai (base of the Saturagiri Hill)
Up the Hill:
For the first timer, it takes nearly 4 to 5 hours to climb to the Top of the hill which is about 10 kms from Thaniparai. Rest, can reach the top within 2 to 3 hours. On the hill there is no electricity, no telephone connection, no range for cell phones no shops, no hotels, and no lodges. Annadhanam is going on from morning to evening near both the temples and stay in the shelter provided there before dark falls. Basic amenities are provided at the hill. Devotees are requested not to spoil the natural gifts in the hill. Everybody can avoid plastic covers and intoxicant materials.
NOTE: Pilgrims are advised to take minimal things like towel, dresses so as to avoid a tiresome pilgrimage.

-> Srivilliputtur to Watrap 20 km
-> Watrap to Thannipaarai[ base of hill ]10 km [ by auto, mini bus, bus is rarely available
-> Thannipaari to Sathuragiri [ sundaramahalingam, sivan tempe ] 7.5 km [ by walk ]
